Retirement life can be tough........

I enjoyed moderating two local state legislature debates with the League.

The president seemed pleased with her nice email to me the next day:

Hi, Pete—

Great job last night!  Very, very professional.  I would be interested in your thoughts on the candidates and anything that we can do to improve the process.

             Thanks again for stepping up.

 Best regards,

 Christine

P.S.  Google is committing megabucks to green energy and partnering with companies like GE to find solutions.  I think that we should send them something about the need to find a convenient, affordable and efficient means of providing geothermal heat to homes with existing hot water baseboard systems.  What do you think??

(PS Comment)

Christine,

Mary and I are enjoying our geo heat now.

I think that baseboard heat can be fine when outside temperatures are at 40 degrees or so. Keep the back up switched on by computer.  A concerted effort to mass produce the geo pipe and heat pump and flow pump could save a lot of $.  If people's expectations are not so high holding the installer accountable, we could get somewhere.  Pipe cost skyrocketed after I purchased in May and then dropped, so it is only 16% higher now.

And with oil prices down geo cannot compete.

I sometimes think the oil cartel has us like an abusive husband, and when the wife tries to divorce, he becomes nice (lowers price) temporarily, and so the victim continues the relationship.

Carl, Brian and I gave 4 people estimates Thursday, but prices are high because as contractors we must guarantee no puncture of the loop pipe and satisfaction with the comfort.  And writing in an agreement that there can be no litigation is a bummer for the client.

On Nov 15 Lynn and I speak at the Community Center. We'll see if politics enters discussion.

Here's an email that I was sent from a few sources.

I knew it was false, checked it on Snopes.com, and replied back.

What deviant mind forges this kind of paperwork, and puts it on the internet for circulation?

And shame on the NY Post for running it and then having to apologize.

And in Balance:

I just read Dave Shannon's book with the same title.

I liked how exactly 79 years ago "the Stock Exchange Firm of Merrill Lynch & Co.... said that investors "with available funds should take advantage of this break to buy good securities."

Shannon reprinted John Steinbeck's Grapes of Wrath Chapter 12 about the family trying to buy a tire on Rte 66 as they headed to California.

Farmers & teachers were hit harder than I realized. And the civil engineer was homeless.

Just makes us examine our priorities I guess.
