Day Trip to NYC!

Mary and Allie admire the flowers at the entrance to Ellis Island.

We did see Vincenzo's name on the wall plaque.

Here's some background from Auntie Rose.

Greetings Everyone !
Vincenzo (James) Angelo ... came to the United States of America
   in 1909 . . . a full century ago !   There has been a (family) presence
in the United States of America for a FULL CENTURY !  James, as he
has been known in his adopted country, was an adolescent of eighteen
   (18) years of age when he arrived on American soil, alone.  He had to
make his own way . . . it was not easy.  Heavy construction work
brought him some sad results (his modest physical stature was a
distinct disadvantage).  His first worthwhile work involved a nursery
in Bronxville.  Here his agrarian experience were distinct advantages.
Very soon he became intrigued by the very first automotive vehicles.
Through a friend at one of the work sites he did some test driving on
the grounds of an industrial firm (I believe it was Hodgeman Rubber Co)
Not long after he applied for and received a Chauffeur's License (one
of the very few who could pass the test, know all car parts, be able
to change a tire in addition to a road test).   In 1918 James was drafted
into the American Army . . . fortunately peace came as he was about to
be sent overseas.   After his honorable discharge he chauffeured for
Oliver Austin, M.D.  and Charlotte Stupp, M.D.
May his soul rest in peace.

Prayers and Love,  Rose

PS: forward this to family members as you see fit
