Pope Benedict XVI visits Yankee Stadium

Thanks Liza for the tickets. Mary, Joanne and I really enjoyed it!

This is the new stadium to be opened next year.

After staying overnight at Joanne's, Liza drove us down early.

We watched on TV in the morning as the Pope visited Ground Zero before traveling to Yankee Stadium.

Each attendee was given a packet with the mass liturgy and various brochures.

The altar before the big event.

New York's finest Police Officers and Dad's fellow Knights of Columbus.

And the finest of the finest, cousin Lou (with his sister Liza) later coordinated the distribution of Communion.

Sorry for the poor camera lighting Lou!

Secret Service Security personnel in blue and gold accompany cadets into the stadium.

As we waited in the cold wind, I bundled up with special cap and plastic poncho issued to everybody.

These radial drapes were assembled by our local Nutmeg Conservatory group from Connecticut.

One of the many choir groups.

Jose Feliciano plays guitar. I also like Harry Connick Jr. on the piano, and the Harlem Chorus.

These spectacular white bird kites filled the stadium, before a flock of real white doves were released.

So the stadium festivities before Pope Benedict XVI's visit were spectacular in themselves.
